“With the 2011–12 State Budget forecasting flat revenues and the NSW Government committed to rebuilding services and infrastructure, all departments have a huge task in finding cost savings to meet the efficiency dividend targets, and to achieve financial sustainability for the state’s public services,” said Paul Doorn, CEO of IPAA NSW.

“The IPAA NSW short course on cost management will support staff facing this huge task. It provides a good overview of the cost saving tools that each public sector manager should be familiar with,” Mr Doorn said.

“Modern government faces risks and opportunities of unprecedented scale and complexity, the solutions to which are very different from those tried in the past,” a new IPAA policy paper argues.

“In Australia, this combination of complexity, scale and unpredictability is testing many of the current models and methods of government and the business processes and systems on which they rely.

“Without considerable reform and renewal, public administration will fail to deliver the mix of better policy, improved services and citizen engagement that are the mark of good government in a more open and connected world.”, the paper concludes.

Australia’s Public Sector Professional Body slams both sides of Politics for Short Sightedness (1 September 2010)

The National President of the Institute of Public Administration Australia, Percy Allan AM, has condemned the decision of both sides of politics to scrap budget funding for the implementation of the reform of public administration proposed by the Moran Blueprint, Ahead of the Game.

He has called on the independent members of Parliament who now hold the balance of power to make restoration of funding for implementation of the Moran report one of the conditions of their support for the next government.

Mr Allan says “The independents are united in their demands for better governance. Yet better governance involves not just improving the processes of Parliament, but also those of public administration.”
