Understand the structures and workings of the public sector and government?

Are you new to government or new role that requires you to understand the basic principles and structures of our Westminster system.

Does your work require knowledge about the role of the public sector, the public sector framework and governance.

Would your workplace benefit if you had a better understanding of how your agency is part of a larger context and supports the government of the day?

An understanding of policy development was identified by the NSW public sector leaders as one of the

Skills for Success . This course builds on the foundations developed in IPAA’s free one hour webinars: Skills for Success: Operating successfully in the NSW Government, and Skills for Success: Surviving the election and changes in MoG.

The workshop will equip you with the basic skills to function more effectively as a public servant. In this lively, interactive workshop you will explore “Government 101”.
You will finish the course with a deeper understanding of:

  • The Constitution;
  • Australia’s federal system;
  • The interaction between the Commonwealth and the States/Territories;
  • The separation of powers;
  • Ministerial accountability and
  • The role of the independent public service.
