This course will give you a foundational understanding of the policy process and show you how political and other factors influence policy.

You’ll also learn about Cabinet as a decision-making body and the various processes involved.

Who is this course for?

For people who have worked in policy for 1 to 3 years who want a comprehensive overview of key policy theories and instruments, or who have achieved intermediate level of the NSW Public Sector capabilities listed below.


WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

You will finish this course knowing you can:

  • clearly state why governments intervene through policy - and what that looks like.
  • build a strong evidence base to underpin policy development.
  • expand your policy toolkit, combining conventional and innovative policy instruments.
  • apply concepts from cost–benefit analysis or behavioural economics in policy development.
  • formulate and progress a business case or policy proposal.

Policy Development Intermediate is for people at the Intermediate level and you will develop the following capabilities:

  • Results: think and solve problems
  • Badge will be provided on completion of the course
