Addressing Underperformance and Misconduct

Everything you need to know to navigate the challenges of performance management.

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

Do you lead and manage a team?

Would your work benefit from a deeper understanding of how you can tackle those challenging performance conversations and motivate your team to be at their best?

Performance management is a particularly challenging aspect of leadership and often performance or behaviour issues go unaddressed, leaving the team and the organisation worse off. Knowing how to have those difficult conversations is indispensable for any leader or people manager.

If you lead and manage people and want to start on the right foot for your next difficult conversation, don’t miss this course.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

You will leave this course with the skills to support and develop people and know when next steps are needed.

You will learn how and when to address performance and behaviour issues in a timely and fair way and address the issues constructively and assertively.

You will also explore when is appropriate to take more structured or formal actions and build the confidence to have feedback conversations in a clear and constructive way.

You will finish this course knowing you can:

  • define performance, behaviour, underperformance, unsatisfactory performance, minor misconduct and misconduct.
  • apply templates to give effective feedback and draft feedback scripts.
  • develop a checklist of actions to ensure all support and development has been given.
  • develop confidence and act consistently with the NSW Guidelines.
  • identify when it is neither a performance or conduct issue and what to do about those situations.
  • know what good documentation looks like and when and what to document.
  • complete a draft support plan for a team member to address performance and conduct issues.
  • gain support for taking formal actions.
